NATURE JOURNALING WORKSHOPS
Contact us to schedule a workshop or day trip for your group.

Nature Journaling Workshop
Grade 4 – Adult
$40 per person, group minimum 10 people
2 hour format
Join us for a two-hour nature journaling workshop. Journal and basic supplies will be provided. We will practice using words, pictures, and numbers to collect and record your nature observations. Journaling is not about great art, instead it is a powerful method to help us connect to nature and make sense of what we see. Learn two of of the many journaling techniques made popular by naturalist and artist John Muir Laws: Soundscape Maps; Hidden Figures; Zoom In, Zoom Out; Diagrams; Poetry of Place; Questioning Questions; Comparisons; Maps; and more! One hour lecture, one hour field work.
ROCKHOUNDING DAY TRIPS
Begin your own rock specimen collection! Join us as we visit rock fields in the local area to learn geological features and the earth processes that created the features we see.

Actinolite Field
Grades 4 – Adult
$80 per student, group minimum 10 people
5 hour format
This adventure is appropriate for adults and children in grade 4 and up, with hands-on rock testing experiments as an option. This is a half-day trip leaving Orange County at 9:00am and returning at 2:00pm. This adventure includes a guided experience that guarantees your group will find actinolite in the field. We also provide information on-site about the surrounding environment and geologic activity. This trip is a rewarding research study and the rock fields are easily accessible from the parking lot but do require the ability to scramble up and down a short rocky incline to the stream bed below. Please bring lunch. Day trip requires individual transportation to the site. The actinolite field is approximately a one-hour and fifteen-minute drive from Orange County, near Wrightwood, CA.
